“…Since we are surrounded by such a great crowd of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders, and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us…”
— Hebrews 12:1
On Sunday we learned of the different ways we accumulate BAGGAGE in our lives: by choosing it, by IT choosing us, and by assuming it. We also celebrated Communion where we remembered the sacrifice of Christ; where He not only provided freedom from our sinful pasts, but He also afforded us the opportunity to experience living free from our BAGGAGE filled lives going forward. The author of Hebrews hits on this when he says, “let us throw off everything that hinders… [so that we can] run with perseverance the race marked out for us…”. The thing I find fascinating is living BAGGAGE free is for more than our comfort, it is also for our accomplishment. Christ’s death on the cross was not just so we could walk more comfortably into Heaven with a lot less burdens to bear, but so we could more aggressively run the race of accomplishing all He has called us to accomplish. You could say, we have become less burdened, so that we may more effectively help relieve the burdens of others. Or, when others see the life in Christ we live, not encumbered by the BAGGAGE of this world, they will want to know how they can also be relieved of their BAGGAGE.
As you give the Lord authority to remove some of the BAGGAGE you have been carrying far too long, remember it is for a far greater purpose than your comfort… it is for your accomplishment. Be mindful of the BAGGAGE others are carrying and allow your life to be an example of what can happen when a person and their BAGGAGE are completely yielded to Him. Pray to impact lives this week.
